80% of Students in India Gain Admission to Desired Programs Through GRE Scores

According to a report by the educational services organization ETS, approximately 80% of Indian students have been admitted to their desired master’s, MBA, and doctoral programs based on their GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) scores. This statistic highlights the effectiveness of the GRE as a tool for achieving high academic and career success in India.

As reported by "Tehsil365" citing Education Times, the 2024 ETS Human Progress Report, based on surveys conducted in 17 countries, reveals that 75% of respondents believe their skills may lose value due to technological advancements. The 2025 report further indicates that 80% of participants believe certificates and micro-credentials will hold as much value as traditional degrees by 2035. This shift is prompting universities and employers to reassess their admissions and hiring criteria.

Over 150 prestigious higher education institutions in India — including the Indian School of Business and several IIMs — accept GRE scores. Data shows that 82% of Indian students who submitted GRE scores were admitted to their top-choice programs. Even among applicants to programs that do not require GRE scores, more than half chose to submit them.

Beyond admissions, the GRE plays a significant role in helping students strengthen essential skills such as analytical thinking, problem-solving, and written communication. The exam comprises three core components: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing — all considered vital for success in fields like law, STEM, business, and communications.

Currently, GRE scores are recognized by more than 1,300 business schools and over 20,000 graduate programs across 72 countries. The scores remain valid for five years, and the ScoreSelect option allows test-takers to choose which scores to send to institutions.

Finally, the updated GRE format offers a shorter (under two hours) and more flexible testing experience. Students receive unofficial scores immediately after the exam, while AI-enhanced security and evaluation systems ensure a more transparent and fair process.
