In 2025, the number of applicants to Saint Petersburg State University increased by 50% compared to last year, reaching 170,000, according to Alexander Babich, the university’s First Vice-Rector.

According to Babich, the majority of applications were submitted through the “Online University Admission” service. This year, the university especially increased the number of state-funded places in technological fields—mathematics, computer science, physics, and astronomy—by 10%.
Despite the increase in applications, the average scores of admitted students remained high, exceeding 90 in each subject. In some programs, about 160 applicants competed for a single place. Overall, more than 10,000 students will be admitted to the university this year.
