Azerbaijan was represented at the World Islamic Tourism and Trade Expo (WITEX) and the World Cultural and Arts Festival (WCAF), traditionally held in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, and recognized as one of the leading exhibitions in the field of Islamic tourism.
According to “Tehsil365”, with the aim of promoting our country’s tourism potential and culture in Malaysia, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Malaysia, together with members of the Azerbaijani community residing in Kuala Lumpur, organized a national stand at the exhibition.
Alongside Azerbaijan, more than 150 stands from countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Spain, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan were featured. At the opening ceremony, Malaysia’s Chief Secretary for Political Affairs to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, as well as the President of the Malaysian Tourism Agency Association and Chairman of WITEX/WCAF, Dato’ Sri Mohd Khalid Harun, together with other officials and representatives of the diplomatic corps, visited the Azerbaijani stand and were briefed about the country’s culture and tourism opportunities.
Visitors to the Azerbaijani stand were provided with detailed information about our culture, history, traditions, achievements in the tourism sector, and existing tourism routes. National costumes, carpets, kelaghayi, and other examples of traditional craftsmanship were showcased, while brochures and souvenirs reflecting Azerbaijan’s cultural tourism potential were distributed among attendees. As part of the cultural program, Azerbaijan’s “Khari Bulbul” song and dance were performed.
In parallel with the exhibition, during the WITEX Ministers and CEOs Summit, Counselor of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Malaysia, Sarkhan Ismayilov, delivered a presentation on the country’s tourism potential. He provided information on the development of the tourism industry in Azerbaijan, the country’s tourism products and routes, examples included in UNESCO’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage lists, as well as winter tourism opportunities.
