Azerbaijan was represented at the recently concluded 19th World Poetry Festival held in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, by Mahir Garayev — a member of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, contributor to Khazar magazine, and poet-translator.

According to “Tehsil365” , several works by Venezuelan writers and poets — Of Fire or Ash (De fuego o de ceniza) by Anna Maria Palomares, A Strange House (Casa Ajena) by Freddy Ñáñez, and The River Turned to Ashes (Río quemado) by Jorge Rodríguez — have been translated into Azerbaijani and published thanks to Mahir Garayev’s efforts. During the festival, several of Garayev’s own poems were also translated into Spanish and featured in popular publications.

Throughout the week-long event, digital exhibitions showcased translations of Spanish-language poetry into Azerbaijani, English, and other languages. A book fair was also organized, highlighting Azerbaijani publications featuring translations from English and Spanish.

Supported by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Azerbaijan, Mahir Garayev's visit included interactions with writers from more than 30 countries. He introduced them to both classical and contemporary Azerbaijani literature and exchanged ideas on fostering future literary collaboration.
