School uniform requirement reintroduced for Students in Turkiye

Turkiye Reintroduces School Uniform Requirement Starting from the 2025–2026 Academic Year. The decision by Türkiye’s Ministry of National Education (MEB) to abolish the free-dress policy in schools and reintroduce a mandatory school uniform has been welcomed by the public. Starting from the 2025–2026 academic year, school uniforms will once again be required.

According to “Tehsil365”, citing TRT Haber, many parents expressed their appreciation for this decision by sending thank-you messages to CİMER (Presidency’s Communication Center). The Ministry stated that the new uniform policy will be simple, comfortable, and aligned with health and pedagogical principles. To avoid creating a financial burden for families, specially designed uniforms will not be mandatory.

Under the new rules, school-parent associations are not allowed to sell uniforms or direct parents to specific stores. Mandatory clothing for special events or occasions will not be required. In areas like workshops or laboratories, work attire may be used with the approval of school administration.

According to the new regulations:

Each school will determine its own uniform design, which must be comfortable and durable.

Materials such as cotton and wool will be used.

The design must not restrict students' physical development.

The same school uniform will be used for at least four years without change.

Symbols such as logos or badges will not be compulsory, and parents may purchase uniforms from any store of their choice.

The official statement emphasized that this move aims to protect students’ health and reinforce equality, discipline, and order in the educational environment.

The public has responded positively to the change. One parent wrote to CİMER: “The uniform rule is a very correct decision. With free dress, families struggled to find appropriate clothing for their children.”

Another citizen said: “As a teacher, I am very pleased with the return to school uniforms. Design competitions could even be organized for different education levels.”

The general opinion among parents is that: “Free dress highlighted material differences among students and created psychological pressure. Returning to uniforms will restore equality and discipline in schools.”
