On August 16, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned literary scholar, Doctor of Philological Sciences, professor, full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), and People’s Poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh will be commemorated. On February 21, 2025, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree “On the Celebration of Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s 100th Anniversary.” In accordance with the Presidential Decree, a series of events dedicated to the poet’s jubilee are being held both in the capital and in the regions.
“Tehsil365” reports that, on the joint initiative of the Mahmud Kashgari International Foundation, the Sheki “Yukhary Bash” National Historical and Architectural Reserve under the State Tourism Agency, the Sheki Historical and Ethnographic Museum named after R. Afandiyev, the Sheki State Art Gallery, and the Sheki Museum of Folk Applied Arts, a book, carpet, and art exhibition was opened at Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s house museum in Sheki.
The exhibition features paintings based on the poet’s works, portrait carpets dedicated to Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh, and books authored by the writer, devoted to his creativity.
Elshen Zakariyyabeyli, director of the museum, stated that the events held in accordance with the presidential decree reflect a deep respect for Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s spirit and creativity. He expressed gratitude to MP Javanshir Feyziyev on behalf of the Bakhtiyar community for the publication of the 12-volume “Selected Works,” which includes all the poet’s writings.
Khayala Tohrabli, deputy head of Sheki City Executive Power, emphasized the special importance of celebrating Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s jubilee in this way at the house museum, noting that such events are a source of pride for Sheki.
Javanshir Feyziyev, MP and president of the Mahmud Kashgari International Foundation, said that these carpets lovingly created by skilled masters, photo studies reflecting certain moments from the poet’s life, paintings dedicated to his works, and research papers written with respect for every line of Bakhtiyar’s world, are a valuable gift not only for visitors to the museum during the jubilee but for all admirers of Bakhtiyar and scholars engaged in scientific study of his works. “Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh, his dreams, wishes, and all his ideas belong not only to Sheki, his hometown, but to all of Azerbaijan and the Turkic world. Today, we are happy that all the ideas Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh dreamed of throughout his life have come true. Azerbaijan has gained its independence, Turkic states have begun the integration process on the scale of the Turkic world, achieving great success. All these were among Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s dearest ideas, wishes, and hopes, and they have all been realized today. Another part continues to be successfully implemented in the process of integration of the Turkic world,” Javanshir Feyziyev concluded.
During the meeting, a video presentation about Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s life and creative path was shown.
