Today marks 82 years since the birth of People's Artist and prominent theatre director Vagif Sharifov.
According to “Tehsil365”, Vagif Sharifov began his professional career in theatre in 1960. He graduated from the Directing Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. Over the course of his career, he worked at the Ganja State Drama Theatre, the Sumgayit State Drama Theatre, and the Agdam State Drama Theatre.
Throughout different periods, the director staged productions of Nazim Hikmet’s The Sword of Damocles, Huseyn Javid’s Maral, Jafar Jabbarli’s Almaz and Yashar, A. Baranga’s Public Opinion, Y. Salovich’s The Strange Beggar, Anar’s Summer Days of the City, Elchin’s The Murderer, Suleyman Sani Akhundov’s Love and Revenge, Ismayil Shykhly’s The Mad Kura, Orhan Kemal’s The Strange Girl, Nushaba Mammadli’s I Want to Forget, Sahib Ibragimli’s Sadig’s Wedding, among many others. In total, he brought more than 120 productions to the stage.
For his production of Mirza Mahammad Akhundzade’s The Law Peddler, he was awarded the “Golden Dervish” prize established by the Union of Theatre Workers of Azerbaijan.
Vagif Sharifov was honored with the titles of Honored Art Worker and People's Artist.
The distinguished artist passed away in 2021.
