Sadaya Mustafayeva: Renowned actress of the Ganja theatre remembered

August 13 marks the commemoration day of people’s artist Sadaya Mustafayeva.

According to “Tehsil365”, the artist, who lived for 78 years, created a remarkable gallery of diverse and memorable roles.

Sadaya Mustafayeva was born on July 15, 1926, in the city of Shaki. After completing her five-year secondary education, the outbreak of World War II led her father, Ismayil, and her brother, Mahammad, to join the war. Meanwhile, Sadaya began working at a local silk factory in Shaki under a master named Latifa.

Later, she was invited to join the Shaki State Drama Theatre as an actress. During her time there, she created a series of captivating roles one after another. She continued her career in the theatres of Agdash and Goychay.

In March 1950, Sadaya Mustafayeva was invited to the Ganja State Drama Theatre by its director, People’s Artist, theatre and film actor, and director Mahammad Burjaliyev. At this theatre, she portrayed more than 400 remarkable characters. Among her notable roles are: Khuraman and Gulnar in Vagif, Gultekin in Aydin, Peri in Peri Cadu, Sara, Peri, and Gulnisa in Solgun Chichekler, Emelia in Otello, Elizabeth in Richard III, Xanthippe in Conversations with Socrates, Sebihe in Itkin Gelin, Hajar Khanum in Yad Qizi, Aliya in Daireni Genishledirin, Nila in Tabilchi Qiz, Benovshe in Kendchi Qiz, Shahnigar in Deli Kur, Ana in Ana Vuqar, Rashida Khanum in Beraet, Dilshad Khanum in Atayevler Ailesi, Natavan in Khursidbanu Natavan, Metanet in Gonshular, Almaz in Almaz, Nargila in Sen Hemise Menimlesan, Rakhshanda Khanum in Mahni Daglarda Qaldi, and many others. Most of the current actors and actresses of the Ganja State Drama Theatre are graduates of her school.

People’s Artist Sadaya Mustafayeva also appeared in more than 20 films produced by Azerbaijanfilm. Her notable roles include Khatun in Qanun Namine, Gozel in Men Ki Gozel Deyildim, Shamama in Sharikli Chorek, Mulayim in Qaynana, Sugra Khala in Olsam Bagishla, Mirvari Nene in Ag Atli Oglan, Ana in Hem Ziyaret, Hem Ticaret, Asmar in Ilk Korpu (produced by American filmmakers), and others. She was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Artist” in 1958, “People’s Artist” in 1981, and in 2003 received a personal pension from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Sadaya Mustafayeva passed away on August 13, 2004, in the city of Ganja.
