The 39th International Folk Art Festival (Mesterségek Ünnepe) is being held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, from August 17 to 20.
According to “Tehsil365”, the event, traditionally organized every year, is taking place in the area of Buda Castle, particularly on Táncsics Mihály Street, Szentháromság Square, and in the park on Margit Terrace, as well as on Tóth Árpád Promenade. It is one of the largest cultural celebrations in Hungary. These days, Hungarians are also preparing to celebrate the country’s National Day — St. Stephen’s Day — on August 20, which attracts a large number of tourists.
This year’s guest of honor at the festival is Azerbaijan.
Our country is represented at the event with three stands, showcasing a variety of Azerbaijani folk art traditions:
Carpet weaving
Felting (wool and felt crafts)
Embroidery and unique stitching art — tekeldüz (a special left-hand embroidery technique)
Kelaghayi art (silk headscarves)
Khatamkarlik (inlay work combined with micro-mosaic)
Around 800 artisans from different countries are participating in the festival. As in previous years, the event is expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors. Throughout the festival, visitors can enjoy master classes, live craft demonstrations, as well as national music and dance performances.
Azerbaijan’s participation serves to strengthen cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Hungary and plays an important role in promoting the rich heritage of our people on the international stage.
