Cairo University: the first modern civil university and scientific center in the Arab world

President of Cairo University, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, announced that all international publication awards for the years 2020–2023 have been fully disbursed. He stated that during this period, the international publication awards doubled, which is part of the university’s strategy to enhance its scientific research system. The aim is to improve the quality of innovative scientific outcomes and strengthen the university’s position in international rankings.

According to “Tehsil365”, the president also instructed that the second round of research awards for 2022 be disbursed in the coming days, along with the completion of financial payments for 2023 research projects. At the same time, the acceptance of scientific research published in 2024 will begin.

In 2023, 1,659 faculty members submitted 4,864 international scientific papers, an increase of 629 compared to 2022. Meanwhile, the funding allocated for scientific research rose from 41 million Egyptian pounds in 2020 to 90 million Egyptian pounds in 2023.

The president affirmed the university’s full support for its faculty and staff to publish research in international scientific journals and emphasized the importance of developing both fundamental and applied research in terms of quality and quantity. The goal is to maximize the tangible impact of scientific research on the economy and society.

Vice President for Scientific Research, Dr. Mahmoud Said, noted that the number of research papers submitted for the international publication award in 2023 increased by 23.23% compared to 2020, reaching 3,734. The total award amount also rose from 41 million Egyptian pounds in 2020 to 90 million in 2023. At the same time, the university increased its support for covering research expenses by 150%, from 20,000 Egyptian pounds in 2024 to 50,000 in 2025.

Number of scientific research papers submitted at Cairo University:

2020: 3,734 papers, 1,571 researchers

2021: 4,287 papers, 1,685 researchers

2022: 4,235 papers, 1,473 researchers

2023: 4,864 papers, 1,659 researchers
