The Common University Entrance Test (CUET), introduced in India in 2022, has led to a significant increase in women’s enrollment in higher education, particularly at Delhi University. According to official data, the percentage of female students admitted to DU has risen by more than 15% over the past three years, with the gender gap in the 2024–25 academic year favoring women by more than 6,000 students.
“Tehsil365” reports that Education Times has published this information.
Experts attribute this growth to NEP-2020 reforms, the standardized entrance exam system, scholarships, and special quotas such as the “Single Girl Child” scheme. However, true equality has yet to be achieved, as girls from rural and remote areas still face challenges such as distant exam centers, limited access to preparation resources, and social barriers.
Specialists believe that establishing more local exam centers, offering free or subsidized coaching programs, and expanding scholarship opportunities could further strengthen women’s participation in higher education.
