AzTU’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering achieves another international success.
“Tehsil365” reports that the next scientific article of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), titled “From Bedside to Bot-Side: Artificial Intelligence in Emergency Appendicitis Management”, co-authored with researchers from various European countries, has been published in Life, a journal indexed in international databases.
The article comparatively investigates the effectiveness of artificial intelligence technologies (GPT-4.5, DeepSeek R1, and machine learning models) in diagnosing appendicitis and supporting surgical decision-making in patients admitted to the emergency department with abdominal pain.
Within the framework of a multicenter retrospective study conducted in different centers in Germany as well as at AzTU, clinical, laboratory, and radiological indicators of patients were analyzed. The results showed that AI-based approaches demonstrated a high level of consistency with the decisions of experienced surgeons, suggesting that in the future they could serve as valuable support tools for doctors, especially in resource-limited healthcare environments.
This successful study once again confirms both the international collaboration potential of AzTU’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering and the scientific contributions of the university’s researchers in the fields of artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering.
