One of Google’s pioneers in artificial intelligence and founder of the startup Integral AI, Cudd Tarifi, has warned that the career choices of future doctors and lawyers are at risk. According to him, artificial intelligence may radically transform these fields before students even complete their education.
According to “Tehsil365”, citing foreign sources, Tarifi—who left Google in 2021—stated that technology is advancing so rapidly that by the time students graduate, AI will already have reached a far more advanced level. In such a case, spending years in education and tens of thousands of dollars would simply be a waste of time.
The expert believes that the medical training system relies on outdated methods such as rote memorization and repetition, which makes the process highly vulnerable to automation. He advises young people to “think carefully” before pursuing this path.
Tarifi also noted that the traditional model of higher education is becoming obsolete. He shares this view with other technology leaders. For instance, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also stated that universities are failing to prepare professionals who meet modern demands
According to Tarifi, young people should either move toward new fields where AI is being applied—such as biology—or completely rethink their career plans.
He also emphasized the importance of personal development: “The best thing you can do is work on yourself. Meditate, connect with your friends, and learn to understand your emotions.”
Tarifi’s position is also similar to that of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who recently said that AI has already reached the level of a “PhD” and stressed that the key skill for people now is to use AI tools effectively.
